POSITION SUMMARY:
Provides academic and communication/language intervention, including assessments, direct instruction, consultation and/or training to educational staff and families for Regionally eligible Deaf or Hard of Hearing students. Teacher of the Deaf/Hard of Hearing may be in specialized classrooms or as an Itinerant Teacher for EI/ECSE or School Age children depending on program needs.
REPRESENTATIVE DUTIES:
1. Provides instruction in language, communication, speech and audition skills, advocacy and equipment use based on knowledge of language development for Deaf and Hard of Hearing students.
2. Participates as a team member on District/County eligibility, IFSP, IEP, three-year re-evaluation teams. Performs assessments and provides data regarding the impact of the students' hearing difference on their educational progress to determine special education Deaf and Hard of Hearing eligibility, IFSP/IEP goals and objectives, and progress monitoring.
3. Develops goals and objectives that meet students' individual needs and abilities in developmental, functional, and academic areas. Uses assessments to collect progress data on specific learning goals and objectives. Uses this data to report IFSP/IEP growth and to inform IFSP/IEP decision-making.
4. Works with families, community and county/school district personnel to develop and implement instructional programs designed to enhance students' access in the general classroom setting. Monitors progress of assigned students, collaborating and keeping in contact with all personnel working with Deaf and Hard of Hearing students.
5. Follows district and regional program policies, procedures and paperwork requirements. Attends scheduled staff meetings. Develops professional growth goals, maintains service logs for students, and reports complete and accurate information to supervisor when requested.
6. Provides trainings, consultation and/or coaching about deafness, hearing abilities and its impact on learning. Is knowledgeable and can provide training on use of an educational interpreter and/or maintenance of equipment related to students' hearing abilities.
7. Writes lesson plans that can be clearly understood and used by teacher and/or substitute. Plans are aligned with group and individual goals.
8. Performs other reasonably related duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS:
1. Oregon Teaching License with endorsement in Special Education: Deaf and Hard of Hearing, or eligible for a License of Conditional Assignment with Deaf and Hard of Hearing endorsement. Commitment and ability to obtain Deaf and Hard of Hearing endorsement if not already licensed with this endorsement.
2. Experience teaching students who are Deaf or Hard of Hearing.
3. Fluency in ASL preferred.
4. Coureswork, professional development, or training in Listening and Spoken Language strategies preferred.
COMPENSATION: $55,539 - $108,071 (Annual salary based on 1.0 FTE)
WORK YEAR: 193 days
FTE: 1.0 (40 hrs/week)
